Lot-et-Garonne: the “Jambon de Tonneins” brand is now officially the property of the City

In a publication published this Friday, May 2, the municipality announced that it officially owns the brand. Could this finally be the end of the battle launched by Rémy Duprat in October?
This is the case that shook the economic and political landscape of Tonnein during the winter: Rémi Duprat, partner of Dante Rinaudo's deputy, Maryline Tamisé, claimed the brand to make an assumed commercial profit from it . He wanted to impose a request for authorization and a right of use on the pork butchers who produced it artisanally. A claim that emerged from limbo for a brand that everyone thought was protected (to the extent that there is even a brotherhood in its name), when this was no longer the case since 2021. Rémy Duprat then took advantage of the opportunity to take steps to appropriate it with the INPI.
A few weeks later, the municipality responded by filing its own application , arguing that it was in the public interest, defending a local tradition, and including a town name in the name. On May 2, the city announced that it now owns the "Jambon de Tonneins" trademark, via publication in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property on April 11, 2025. "All our traders can continue to produce and sell our Tonneins ham."
"It could still change."Rémi Duprat's interpretation is slightly different, as he still hasn't received a notification of refusal from the INPI for his application, which predates the town hall's, with the name "Véronique jambon de Tonneins." "At least, thanks to me, the town was able to become the owner of the trademark. Even if that could still change, there are the courts... Time will tell," he says.
He also wants to downplay the significance of this story, which he himself initiated. "There are things much more important than ham being prepared in Tonneins," he concludes enigmatically.
